You’ve seen it too many times. A client comes to you with severely damaged hair due to over-processing and improper bleaching. She is sending out a hair S.O.S. and needs your help in not only repairing her troubled hair, but delivering the color she wants. Here, Sydniiee Oliverira from CA Looks Salon in Visalia, CA was tasked with creating a bright platinum hue for a client with severely damaged, Level 4 hair. Following a particularly negative experience at a previous salon where, “Parts of her hair had broken off completely, and the two sides of her hair no longer matched,” she came to Sydniiee looking for a fix. Additionally, her client had a good two inches of outgrowth. Here’s how she transformed her client from root-y and damaged to platinum perfection.

FORMULA STEPS

1. Start by sectioning off two sides and applying Formula A to the regrowth, staying about a 1/2-inch away from the scalp. Allow the lightener to lift to about a Level 7, then go back with fresh 30-volume and apply Formula A to the scalp.
2. Place the hair under a cap and let the lightener work its magic, constantly checking on your client’s comfort level since this is an on-scalp bleach.
3. Once you reach the desired lift, rinse with cool water, shampoo and condition the hair with Wella Professional Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner.
4. Then apply Wella Professional Luxe Oil and blow-dry the hair.
5. Now lighten the hair for a second time using Formula A. Yes, TWO rounds of lightener. This time apply Formula B. Section each side and apply Formula B all over the scalp and to the slight line of demarcation that now may exist from the first round.
6. Let the color process for about 20 minutes, then carefully apply fresh 20-volume with Olaplex to the remaining hair until it is all lightened to a Level 10-12.
7. Rinse with cool water.
8. For the toner, Sydniiee used two separate toners. For an icy look, apply Formula C to the root area.
9. Apply Formula D to the rest of the hair.
10. Apply Formula E all over the root area and gently comb through. Then apply Formula D all over and let the color process.
11. Rinse with cool water and apply Olaplex No. 2, concentrating on the midshafts and ends, Allow the color to process for 15 minutes.
12. Shampoo and condition the hair with Wella Professionals Brilliance, rinsing with cool water.
13. Apply Wella Professionals Luxe Leave-In and Luxe Oil and blow-dry the hair. Finish the look with a flat iron and Wella Professionals Thermal Image for heat protection.
