And best of all—how about those clients? Never before have the customers sitting in your chair been so enthusiastic about creative colors like daffodil and cotton candy and Kelly green. From eight to 80, they’re open to everything, eagerly swiping through their personal haircolor inspiration collections, pointing to this amethyst shade and that peach and blue color melt, imploring you, “Can we do that on my hair?”

Rusk Deepshine Direct Color Formulas
Formula A: Purple + conditioner

Formula B: Yellow + conditioner

Formula C: Blue + conditioner

Formula D: Rose + conditioner

How-To
1.
Maintain her natural regrowth and prelighten remaining midlengths and ends.

2. Create an ear-to-ear horizontal parting at the occipital. Subdivide that section into horizontal/zigzag partings. Working on triangular sections off of the zigzag, from left to right, apply Formula A, Formula B, Formula C and Formula D. Apply a second zigzag section in the opposite order.

3. Create a diamond/circular section at the crown and clip. On the section above the occipital, create a zigzag parting from ear to ear. Apply Formula B, Formula C and Formula A to the peaks of the zigzag and Formula D to the remaining hair.

4. In the section above, create vertical sections, alternating from Formula D around the face and hairline to Formual B, Formula A, Formula C and back to Formula D. Release the crown section and apply Formula D to all of the hair.

Balayage Rainbow
By Shelley Gregory (@shelleygregoryhair)

“When taking a client pastel, healthy hair is critical. You must lift the hair to a Level 9 or higher, and it won’t be as effective if the hair is porous or damaged. Also, instruct clients to shampoo with sulfate-free shampoo and cold water, and be upfront about the fact that these shades will last a few weeks, and they will have to return sooner than they would with natural shades,” shares Shelley.
