COLOR, Cut and Style 2016: Day 1

close formula

We said we would have the biggest stage ever…and we were FOR REAL! How amazing was Day one of COLOR, Cut & Style 2016?! We were Snapchatting and Instagramming all day so you could follow along, and now you can check out our quickie recap of what went down!

L’ANZA Healing Haircare
“Our message to you this weekend is to show you things you can use as soon as you get back to the salon,” said Ammon Carver (BTC On Paper cover star!). And he wasn’t joking! First, L’ANZA B.I.G. Believers Christopher Dove and John Simpson demonstrated gorgeous color techniques using L’ANZA Vibes, then Ammon, Matt Swinney and Leah Freeman showed us tips and tricks to help you add services to your clients’ tickets and make more money. Look out for a full recap of their advice soon!

Kenra Professional
Kenra showed us the yin and yang of color with their energetic presentation. First, Robb Dubré, Laken Rose, Cassie Siskovic and David Lopez gave us the simple way to get your blondest EVER with Simply Blonde! Then #hairbesties Guy Tang and Rebecca Taylor served up the hottest in metallic melts and neons (that glow under a blacklight!).

L’Oréal Professionnel
We all know the L’Oréal Professionnel team members are the balayage masters, and of course Nancy Braun brought her best techniques. A fun surprise? Travis Parker and Pepper Pastor did some amazing cutting and styling as well! And the crowd was LOVING it.

Paul Mitchell
Who doesn’t love Robert Cromeans?! Besides cracking us up with his jokes and making us think with his business tips, Robert and his team—Mary Cuomo, Anya Segers and Noogie Thai—brought the theatrics, because of course they did. It was a treat for our eyes and our brains!

The iconic educator Anthony Mascolo introduced the 2016 TIGI® Inspirational Youth team, 10 up-and-coming platform artists all under age 25 who did a five-day bootcamp with the TIGI® team to learn how to be amazing as on-stage educators! It was so awesome to see these young hairdressers work the stage and the crowd, and we also loved seeing Akos Bodi, Thomas Osborn and Richy Kandasamy show off their own colors and cuts. Our own Mary Rector-Gable also made an appearance during this show, because she is such a strong supporter of the Inspirational Youth program!

Celebrity Stylist Panel
Day one culminated with a fascinating glimpse into the lives of five celebrity stylists—Sally Hershberger, Justin Anderson, Harry Josh, Sarah Potempa and Anthony Cristiano. First, each stylist took to the stage to demo their signature looks: Sally’s iconic shag, Justin’s Hollywood blonde; Harry’s go-to style for a night on the red carpet; Sarah’s quick bombshell beach waves; and Anthony’s perfectly imperfect layered cut. Next, the stylists sat down with Mary to discuss life as a celebrity stylist. One of our favorite pieces of advice? “Just say yes. To everything,” shared Justin.
