Speak The Same Language

When consulting with a bride, make sure you’re both on the same page. Tennessee-based bridal stylist Christi Piontkowski (@knoxvillebridalhair) explains that sometimes a consultation can get lost in translation, especially if the bride brings in a inspo pic that doesn’t match their hair type. “As stylists, we tend to speak a different language than clients,” she explains. To make sure there is no confusion, Christi always asks the same two questions: “What do you like about this style?” and “What would you change about this style?” This way, she adds, when they come in for their wedding-day appointment there is no grey area.

Be Diplomatic With Prep

We all know how important prep is for any style, but having a bride in the chair means working on a strict timeline. BTC Team Member Alisha Jared (@alishajaredhairartistry) suggests using your prep time wisely. Not all styles need a full head of curls, she explains, pay attention to standout details (like embellishments or accessories) and don’t over work yourself. Alisha likes to prep her bride with medium hold, workable hairspray. Her fave? Diamond Deflect Spray 10 from Kenra Professional.

Give Romantic Styles Extra Love… And Volume

For brides that want a billowing braid or a romantic style, volume and texture products are A MUST! For Bridal Educator and BTC Team Member Whitney Burkhart (@wb_upstyles) Crème 2 Powder Play by Sexy Hair is the perfect product for both volume and texture. “I love this product because a lot goes a long way,” Whitney explains. “It starts as a cream, but once you work it into the hair it turns into a great workable texture.”

Product Picks for Warmer Weather Brides

Have bride with a destination wedding? Or maybe just an August wedding? Use products that help win the fight against humidity. #ONESHOT Winner and BTC Team Member Megan Schipani (@shmeggsandbaconn) likes to prep the hair with products that will hold styles up! Her go-tos? Prep with Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray from Oribe and use fluxus touchable hairspray from amika while styling.

Flowers Aren’t Just For Bouquets

This season, brides aren’t afraid to add fresh flowers to an updo, and to be honest… we’re here for it! Want to ensure floral accessories stay in place? In-demand bridal stylist and BTC Team Member Annette Waligora (@annette_updo_artist) suggests leaving a bit of stem on fresh flowers to use as an anchor for bobby pins. Place the bobby pin on the stem, Annette explains, then slide the bobby pin into the style. This way, the only flying flowers come from the bride’s bouquet.

Photo Finish

Wedding photos are a lasting memory, but also, perfect for showing off your work! For BTC Team Member Amanda Diedrich (@blohaute), the right finishing oil can make all the difference in photos. Amanda uses the Speechless Dry Oil Finishing Spray from IGK Hair because it tames flyaways but also enhances the client’s haircolor.
