BREAKING NEWS: Wella Professionals 2017 North American TrendVision Winners Announced!

close formula

The 7th Wella Professionals North American TrendVision Awards was totally jaw-dropping. From the artistic presentations by industry legends to the 50 finalists’ work (representing hairdressers from the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico), it was a night to remember at L.A. Live in downtown L.A. See everything that went down!

Four gorgeous artistic presentations throughout the night were chock-full of insanely cool hair. Akin Konizi and the HOB Creative Team; Team North America: Josh Wagner, Sonya Dove, Omar Antonio and Anthony Cole; The Sassoon Academy Creative Team: Mark Hayes, Traci Sakosits, Richie Rivera; and Robert Lobetta and the Sebastian Creative Team (Shay Dempsey, Marylle Koken, Claudio Lazo) all served outstanding presentations.

Hosted by Carole Protat and Sal Mauceri, the evening was celebratory and super-fun, especially with judges including Oscar Blandi, celebrity stylist Christian Wood, Sebastian Artist Danny Lozada and salon owner Frank Marasco! There was someone missing, though—Fabio Sementilli. Carole and Sal announced the creation of a Coty Professional scholarship specifically for hairdressers who want to enter competitions like TrendVision, in honor of Fabio’s “mentor or enter” mantra and his dedication to elevating hairdressers everywhere.

The competition has three categories, with different prizes for each:

  • COLOR VISION: Open to hairdresser of all ages, this category recognizes best-in-class color work. The Gold winner will represent his/her country at the International TrendVision Awards in London in October, plus they will work on an editorial photo shoot for Vogue!
  • CREATIVE VISION: This category offers the freedom to express creativity by either a cut and finish or dressing hair with an editorial feel. The Gold winner gets to represent his/her country at the International TrendVision Awards, plus they will work backstage with top Wella artists at New York Fashion Week.
  • STUDENT: Open to students and recent graduates, this category recognizes best-in-class overall look. The Gold winner will receive a professional kit with a retail value of $2,000!

Akin Konizi & the HOB Creative Team: “Our presentation focuses on HOB’s vision of hair that has been inspired by the different subcultures of London’s fashion scene. Beauty is in the eye of the tribal leader.”

Stunning work from the HOB Creative Team, led by four-time British Hairdresser of the Year Akin Konizi.

Team North America: Josh Wagner, Sonya Dove, Omar Antonio and Anthony Cole: M.A.A.N (Masculinity, Androgyny, Alternative, Non-Conformity) is a collection displaying masculinity through hair, fashion and music, with a new take on some of the most iconic eras in Men’s’ Fashion.

Inspired by Abbey Road, the M.A.N.N. presentation celebrated masculinity in all forms.

The Sassoon Academy Creative Team: Mark Hayes, Traci Sakosits, Richie Rivera: “Beauty liberated through the medium of imagery, movement and sound.”

An incredible crystallized model from the Sassoon Academy presentation.

Robert Lobetta and the Sebastian Creative Team (Shay Dempsey, Marylle Koken, Claudio Lazo): “The presentation showcases a twisted elegance that is used as an instrument to tell a story, to move the eye around and engage the viewer. We aim for a sense of movement and intricacy.”

Industry icon Robert Lobetta created this headpiece decades ago. The Sebastian Creative Team used it in their fantastic presentation.
