Keep color fresh with an established maintenance schedule
Avoiding dull and brassy color takes time—and appointments! Knowing the amount of maintenance your client is willing to do is crucial during a consultation. To help you AND your client know what it takes, Chrissy shared this need-to-know schedule breakdown:
- 4 to 6 weeks: Being blonde is work! That’s why Chrissy recommends frequent salon visits for platinum blondes to avoid banding and maintain consistency.
- 6 to 8 weeks: Rooted looks such as teasylights, dimensional blondes or brondes and colormelts have a less severe growout, so clients can go up to two months without a retouch, Chrissy explains.
- 10 to 12+ weeks: Balayage and more dimensional looks have the least noticeable regrowth, so clients are able to go the longest without a retouch.
Avoid fading with these color-protecting products
There’s nothing worse than when a blonde client leaves our chair with bright icy tones and complains about brass just a few weeks later. This is where at-home toning comes in. Below, Chrissy and Melissa share the products their clients never leave their chair without!
- Moroccanoil® Blonde Perfecting Purple Shampoo: Cool-toned blondes know: Fading happens FAST! That’s why Melissa and Chrissy send their blondes home with Moroccanoil® Blonde Perfecting Purple Shampoo to neutralize warmth and preserve tones between appointments.
- Moroccanoil® Treatment Light: Melissa suggests prepping with one to two pumps of product to keep hair hydrated when styling.
- Moroccanoil® Perfect Defense: A heat protectant is ESSENTIAL to protecting color from fading or dulling fast. “Think about toast in a toaster,” Chrissy says. Moroccanoil® Perfect Defense protects hair for up to 450 degrees and can be applied to wet or dry hair.
3 At-home haircare tips clients need to know
Educating clients on the importance of at-home maintenance not only benefits them—it also helps avoid stress at their next appointment. Have clients keep that same healthy hair energy at home with these tips:
Tip #1: Send clients home with professional products. Chat up the products used during their appointment and demonstrate how to use them when styling. Not only will this benefit their hair, it will also boost your retail sales.
Tip #2: ALWAYS use a heat protectant. We said it once, but we’re saying it again. Heat damage isn’t limited to dulling color, it can also cause damage and even breakage. Melissa shares three more reasons why she loves Moroccanoil® Perfect Defense:
-
- Moisturizes the hair without weighing it down.
- The fine aerosol mist creates even coverage for every section.
- Do we need to mention that it smells heavenly?
Tip #3: Be gentle when styling. Avoid rough brushing, tight ponytails and harsh hair ties to prevent breakage. “Also avoid pulling the hair up or back when it is wet,” Melissa recommends,
