Neutralize Any Foilayage With Ash Gold Tones

Ever spend hours foiling only to be disappointed by the toning result? Balayage expert Adina Pignatre (@adina_pignatare) says the Redken Shades EQ Bonder Inside Ash Gold series is a must-try for blonding services.

Try Adina’s formula on your next foilayage client:

  • After foiling your client, apply Redken Shades EQ Bonder Inside 06N on hair left out of foils and as a root shadow. This creates an even, neutral base for the foilayage to pop against.

  • Then, apply Shades EQ Bonder Inside 09AG as an all-over gloss to brighten and tone foils without losing dimension.

Avoid Muddy Platinums With A Gold Toner

Platinum hair is inevitably very porous, so the toning process can get nerve-wracking. To ensure an even deposit from root to end and avoid muddy tones (or everyone’s favorite—purple ends) try this formula trick.

Blonding specialist Lisa Mathews (@hairbylisamathews) says, “I add just enough gold to my blonde toning formulas so the hair doesn’t absorb too much ash and still looks bright.” The hint of gold will add a contrasting tone to the platinum hues that will counteract porous pieces of hair pulling purple or blue.

Tone & Repair Hair At The Same Time

After a lightening service and silk press, it’s a hit or miss if your client’s hair can handle a toner. If you’ve ever been stuck having to make this decision, hair educator Kendra Alia (@ken_lili) shares her toning hack.

Kendra uses Redken Shades EQ Bonder Inside because it actually repairs the bonds inside her client’s hair while toning. Plus, the ash gold shades are a great way to brighten up lightened strands without over-processing chemically treated hair.
