Australian Hair Expo 2014 Winners Announced!

Celebrating their 29th anniversary this year, the annual Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards are the longest running and most respected awards in the Australian and New Zealand hairdressing industry. They set the industry standard in the region and represent the pinnacle of hairdressing excellence in the southern hemisphere.

Frank Apostolopoulos, creative director of Melbourne’s Biba salon group, was again named the 2014 Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year. Winning the top prize in Australian hairdressing, Frank takes the national trophy to Victoria for just the fifth time in 18 years.

The BIBA salon group is blitzing the Australian hairdressing awards, winning again the highest accolade in Australian hairdressing, Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year and Hair Expo Education Organisation of the Year—both for the second year running.

Frank Apostolopoulos’ latest collection is one that inspires through the artistic possibilities with simple strands of hair.

Titled RAW, Frank’s award winning collection is inspired by ancient tribal cultures and features exotic textures and styles with a modern twist. RAW explores the fabric of hair in a universe of creative guises for outcomes that are unexpected and mysterious, yet always astonishingly beautiful; a bewitching collection combining a beautiful modern aesthetic with a slight punk edge.

“We’ve pretty much seen everything else with hair. I wanted to create something to inspire others to think differently about hair—a collection that is bravely fascinating by passing everything known and pushing myself to new places,” said Frank. “I wanted to give hair new life; a real reaction, new shape, texture and a much rawer finish. Starting with a blank canvas, anything is possible.”

“RAW pushes hair to the limit, reincarnating the wisdom of tribal cultures melded with today’s hair fashion trends.” said Frank Apostolopoulos. “Creating new textures and pushing the limits excites me.”
