An Evening of Creative Forces: The Alternative Hair Show 2014
London called, and BTC answered. The 32nd Alternative Hair Show was truly a night for the books. Inspired by this year’s theme—Equilibrium—20 hairdressing teams from across the globe showcased their incredible talent on stage in front of an audience of 5,000. BTC’s own Mary Rector-Gable was there, catching all the action from the Royal Box, where she sat with our friends at TIGI®.
As always, the event was designed to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund and this year an impressive $214,000 was raised for the Alternative Hair Charitable Foundation, increasing the total amount of fundraising since the inception of Alternative Hair, in excess of $9.5 million, demonstrating the incredible power of the hairdressing industry.
Kicking off the show, Founder of Alternative Hair, Tony Rizzo, and Worldwide President of Alternative Hair, Anthony Mascolo, welcomed the audience before presenting the 2014 Artistic Teams, which included: Sassoon; Anne Veck; Paul Mitchell; Saco; E Salon; TONI&GUY; Mahogany; and the TIGI® International Creative Team, to name a few. The evening’s presentations began with the Alternative Hair International Visionary Awards, which saw 32 finalists in two categories: Cut and Color and Avant Garde.
From beautifully executed and finished cut and color models, to fantasy styling that reached new heights, the 32 participants created quite the show. First place in Cut and Color went to Rossa Danagher from Ireland, with Runner Up, Anteo Geminiani from Italy. First place for Avant Garde went to Pawel Babicz from Poland, with Runner Up, Richi Grisillo from Australia.
The evening also included the AIPP finale presentation. The winners of the 5 categories were each presented with their trophy by Roberto Pissimiglia, President of the AIPP and guest of honour, revered Sassoon colorist, Annie Humphreys, who was herself, presented with the AIPP and AHS Legend Award. Annie dedicated her award late Renato Brunas.
Top creative teams from around the globe, including the UK, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Spain, Austria, Australia, Czech Republic, Russia and Japan, presented their incredible interpretations of the show’s theme, Equilibrium.
Before closing the night, Anthony and Tony took a moment to thank the audience and participating hairdressers for their enduring support before presenting the $214,000 check.
