Add-On Service Idea: Balayage At The Bowl

close formula

Balayage doesn’t have to be this long, drawn-out process. In fact, L’Oréal Professionnel colorist Nancy Braun likes to turn the service into a quick add-on option for single-process clients that’s easy for the stylist while upping the ticket price. She offers her guests a face frame or surface lights at the shampoo bowl to add more dimension to their color while streamlining the process. Here’s how it works.

Recommend This Add-On When…

  • a client is new to balayage and wants to try the application.
  • a single-process client or gray-coverage client wants more dimension in their color.
  • there is a holiday or special occasion and a client wants something a fun or different.

Hook The Client For The Add-On…Here’s How

  • Show a Pinterest board or portfolio of pics.
  • Explain that most celebrities/style icons are doing this service for a more dimensional color.
  • Use appealing language to describe how their hair will end up looking.

Balayage At The Bowl

  • Decide on a face-frame service, which consists of a few balayage pieces around the front hairline, or a surface-lights application, which includes random balayaged pieces throughout the crown. (The pics below show both processes.)
  • After the single-process color, rinse it thoroughly at the bowl and spray L’Oréal Professionnel 10-in-1 Perfecting Multi-Purpose Spray (if the hair is long and knotty). Then, towel-dry the hair really well and paint the additional strands at the bowl (it should only take about 5 minutes). Let the lightener process for 10 to 20 minutes, then shampoo and condition.
