1. Fine-haired clients need a clean canvas to build volume. A detoxifying cleanser like Kenra Professional Platinum Detox & Deflect Shampoo will draw out dulling impurities and buildup, and the Detox & Deflect Conditioner adds lightweight moisture, giving a great base for building texture. Check out how Annette gives this fine-haired blondie some oomph (with major shine!) below.

2. Add volume at the crown without messing up your work: Use the tail end of a comb to gently lift the hair. Check the gif below!

3. Camouflage bobby pins with Annette’s trick: slide them directly into the updo without opening the pin. This prevents more hair from entering the pin and provides a stronger hold.

4. Overdid it on hairspray? Fix it with Kenra Refresh Dry Shampoo Foam! Apply this cleansing foam to the section of hair with excess product, then gently massage with a towel. Prevent this problem by using a flexible, medium-hold spray like Kenra Diamond Deflect Spray, which can be layered as you work. (Bonus: It deflects pollutants from the hair, so blondes stay shiny!)

5. If a rogue strand pops out of a braid, try this! Open a bobby pin, wrap the strand around the pin and tuck inside the updo. Watch how it’s done below!

6. Braids looking wonky? Make sure you move your body in the direction you want the braid to end for an even, seamless braid.

7. You don’t need to secure a braid with elastic—try backcombing the end of it. Use quick strokes with a comb, coming at it from all angles, then feel the end of the braid. Once it’s firm, you’ll know it’s secure.

8. Dress up a basic style with unexpected accessories like metallic string. Taking this extra step will set you apart from other hairdressers, and your clients will love it! Watch how Annette does it below.
