7 Truth Bombs From BTC’s Mary Rector-Gable

close formula

There’s no better way to find success than to learn from the people that already have. BTC’s founder and Creative Director Mary Rector-Gable has been touching the minds and hearts of hairdressers around the world for more than 17 years. There’s no questioning the influence Mary holds in the hair industry and she continues to inspire and motivate others with her passion and success.Take your own success to the next level and check out these seven awesome pieces of advice from our favorite #GirlBoss!

1. Shine Up!
Don’t ever threaten somebody who has vision and purpose and passion. They WILL work that much harder to prove you wrong! Everyone tried to put me out of business when I started BTC 17 years ago. I lost all of my money and all my investor’s money and didn’t take a salary for five years. I almost bankrupted my family. The “good old boys” didn’t take me seriously and said hairdressers would never be smart enough to turn on a computer (crazy to think 17 years later!) Everyone tried to make us “go away”… everyone… with ONE EXCEPTION…YOU. I owe my life’s passion and purpose to all of you! Don’t you dare ever give up and don’t ever let anyone take your dream from you!

2. Take The Road To Success
Mediocrity is everywhere! It’s so important to surround yourself with like-minded people who have big dreams as well. They’re the only ones who really “get” you…right?

3. Take That First Step

4. Passion Can’t Be Imitated
I’ve always hated the saying, “imitation is the best form of flattery” because when BTC was building our business years ago, our competitors “borrowed” our ideas and our quotes and our memes and our concepts and called them their own…they still do! Ideas are often copied by those who are bigger and stronger and have more power- or in our case, by those who lack creativity. Today, one of the things I enjoy the most about our leadership position at BTC is to help those who are the TRUE INNOVATORS find their voice before the TRUE IMITATORS claim these ideas were their own! A note to all the imitators out there—know that karma is real and it’s a gnarly bitch!

 5. Hire SLOW, Fire FAST!
Salon owners—don’t compromise your culture. Your salon was your vision. Your risk. Your culture. Don’t allow anyone to try to take it from you. Remember hire SLOW, fire FAST! For everyone, remember this. The only way YOUR success can be achieved is if YOU take responsibility for it. A bus is not going to stop in front of your salon and drop clients off one by one at the door. You’ve got to work for it! Your success is up to you. No excuses.

6. Take A Moment To Reflect
Our pasts provide the gift of experience. Appreciate the good and especially the bad experiences in your life. Every moment of every day makes you the person you will ultimately become.

 7. Gratitude Is Attitude
Gratitude is attitude. If you’re not feeling lucky, look around. I’m sure you’ll find an army of people who would love to have your life.
