Anti-Mask Guests? Here’s What To Do

The current mask situation can be confusing. The CDC says vaccinated people no longer have to wear masks, but some cities still require them inside businesses. Salon and suite owners are having to decide if they should still require masks or not, and if they do, how should they enforce the rule? We have all seen the viral videos of customers making a scene in stores when asked to put on a mask. We don’t want this to happen to you, so we’d like to offer five easy steps to help enforce your salon’s mask policy if you so decide.

Why You May Require Face Masks In Your Business

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recently said vaccinated people don’t have to wear masks indoors.

At the same time, for workplaces specifically, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) recommends employees wear face masks in business settings. Plus, OSHA requires employers to provide a safe and healthy workplace, free from recognized hazards likely to cause death or serious physical harm.

The OSHA guidance for workplaces will probably change soon, but for the meantime, it hasn’t. So as a business owner, you need to weigh these different pieces of guidance for your business.

1. Know Your Rights As A Business Owner

First of all, if your local jurisdiction has a mask requirement for business patrons, then you should follow that rule. But even if your town or state does NOT have a mask mandate in place, you may still require masks in your place of business. Think about the “no shirt, no shoes, no service” signs you see at some businesses—this is the same idea.
