Elevate Your Bridal Styles With These 5 Photography Tips

As a bridal stylist, your main focus is to create long-lasting styles for your bride’s big day. 1. Keep T-Shirts And Hoodies Hidden

The bride will probably be wearing a t-shirt or hoodie while she gets her hair done, but you don’t want this known by looking at your photo. Your Instagram feed should embody elegance, so be sure to pull down the shirt or hoodie when taking finished shots so you see your client’s back—not her fave white tee.

2. Steph’s Go-To Angle

Your Instagram is dedicated to showing off your styles, so always have your brides turn away so their hair faces you. It gives you a clear shot of the updo and shows off hairpieces in the best way if she has one!

3. Snapping A Group Shot

Want to take a photo of the entire bridal party you just styled? Have everyone stand close together facing the opposite direction as you. Then, stagger them to add dimension and have them put their arms around each other so it looks less stiff. Like this:

4. Work With Brides Who Are Camera Shy

Some people love having their picture taken while others prefer to stay out of the limelight. So if a client is feeling uncomfortable, have her turn to one side and look over her shoulder, away from the camera. This way their face stays hidden while you get the perfect shot of your updo.

Pro Tip: Having her turn to the side will also make broad shoulders look more narrow. // Instagram via @hairandmakeupbysteph

5. Remember To Take Videos, Too

Why show your followers just one angle of your beautiful bridal styles when you can show them every angle? Be sure to take some videos while you’re taking photos of the finished look. Steph likes to have her bride look from shoulder to shoulder, moving with her as she films, to ensure she captures the whole look.
