5 Trends Hairdressers Need To Know From Fashion Week
Yes, we love running around the shows at NYFW—seeing the creative minds behind the hair, makeup and clothes explode into backstage magic. We also don’t mind seeing the collections first…but our fave part is scoping out new styling techniques from lead stylists and hair trends that will translate from the runway to the streets (and the salons!).

We’re sharing five trends every hairdresser needs to know this season, plus tips and products to achieve these looks on your clients. Scroll through each of the trends, then tap through to the articles below!

1. Disco Texture:
Disco curls, crimped texture and high-volume waves worthy of a dance floor were literally everywhere this season. But before you can achieve high glamour, prep is a major key to setting these looks—think braids, curl sets and a crimper revival!

2. High Shine Hairline:
We’ve seen finger waves and wet looks in past seasons, but a more subtle yet defined slick look is having its moment now, a high shine hairline. This slightly off-the-face definition gives off a more matte, gritty vibe evoking a badass  ‘too cool for you’ look.

3. Hair Accessories & Hardware:
From an ’80s scrunchie comeback to silver chains and rhinestone-bedazzled braids, hair accessories were all over the runways and the streets. Here’s what you need to know: Invest in some on-trend hair accessories (or craft materials?) and get creative, or ask clients to bring in their own hair accessories to customize any look.

4. Wigs For Days: Some of the most creative and iconic looks we see on the runway, models and celebs have this in common—wigs! Why? Using a wig as your hair canvas will allow you more time to unlock, explore and harness your creative vision. Plus, we’re always impressed by the seamless application skills we see backstage.

Psst…the BTC #ONESHOT Hair Awards added a wig category and other newbies so check them all out here HERE and take your shot.

5. Low Buns & Knots:
It’s the official model off-duty look that embodies natural chicness where street style meets high fashion. Low knots and buns are client-friendly but the creative accents (like braids and twists) only you can add will keep them coming back for more.
