1. Thou Shall Not Rush The Process

Don’t try and speed up the process with a higher developer, warns 2017 Pastel #ONESHOT Winners Michael and Melody Lowenstein (@rossmichaelssalon). Bumping up the volume could result in hair that is over processes and damaged. “Remember that this kind of change is a color journey,” they advise. “It can take three or four appointments to reach the client’s blonde goals.” Have a thorough consultation so your client understands what is achievable and remember—great hair takes TIME!

2. Use The Right Products From Processing To Styling!

REAL TALK: Bleaching hair can cause damage. But you can add insurance AGAINST damage by using the Olaplex Bonding System throughout the ENTIRE SERVICE! Here’s how:

  • Melody and Michael recommend using Olaplex No. 1 Bond Multiplier mixed in every bowl of bleach to ensure minimal damage during processing.
  • BTC Team Member Bianca Hillier aka @biancacolour knows that the holiday rush also goes for her clients! “During the holidays most of my clients don’t have time to sit at a shampoo bowl for a treatment. So I apply Olaplex No. 2 Bond Perfector and style them with braids so they can leave and continue their holiday errands!”
  • Send clients home with the Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector! Bianca recommends her platinum clients use the bonding mask overnight at least once a week. “Olaplex builds bonds from the inside out,” she explains. “So allowing it to sit on the hair for as long as possible does wonder!”
  • When clients are styling at home, Bianca has them finish with a cocktail of Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother and No. 7 Bonding Oil. Mixing the two helps keep hair nourished and moisturized while they enjoy their holiday parties!

PRO TIP: To boost results when using a mask, Melody and Michael suggest wrapping the hair in a towel for the first 20 minutes. “The heat from your scalp will open the cuticle,” they explain, “allowing for maximum absorption.

3. Wet Hair = Fragile Hair

When it’s time for your client to leave your chair (with gorgeous platinum color might we add!) Make sure they know how to keep that color for as long as possible! Michael and Melody advise their blonde clients to hold out for wash day. “Over-washing can strip hair of essential moisture and cause toner to fade faster,” they explain. Also, after hopping out of the shower, tell clients to go easy on the brushing. Wet hair is more susceptible to damage, so be gentle!

4. Get Warmed Up—But Not Too Much

We know snuggling by the fire with your beau is winter romance goals—but is it worth dull, dry haircolor? We didn’t think so. Platinum Card Queen Rachel Williams (@rachelwstylist) tells her clients to be wary of fireplaces and suggest keeping their hot styling tools to 250 degrees max!
