4 Things We Learned From Goldwell and KMS in NYC

What better way to spend a Sunday night than surrounded by some of the season’s hottest hair at the glamorous Gotham Hall in NYC? We hung out with Goldwell and KMS artists from around the globe at Hair Play International and got you the tricks and techniques from backstage and onstage to amp up your color, cut and style services.

1. Two New Takes on Red
These two formulas from Goldwell Global Artistic Directors Rebecca Hiele and Nick Pagano offer both a warm- and a cool-toned way to play with dimensional red. Rebecca’s tip: melt between each formula on sections and overlap slightly for an iridescent feel.

Subtropic Cool Red

Check out that cool-toned red on the left! Haircolor by Sam Pagano.

Goldwell Elumen Color Formulas
Formula A: 30 ml BK@6 + 10 ml RR@all

Formula B: 20 ml KK@all + 15 ml GK@all + 3 ml RR@all

Formula C: 10 ml BK@6 + 20 ml KK@all + 10 ml GK@all

Subtropic Warm Red

Goldwell Color Formulas
Formula A: 35 ml Topchic 8KG + 5 ml Topchic 7KR + 40 ml Topchic Developer Lotion 3%

Formula B: 5 ml Colorance 9KG + 25 ml Colorance 9G + 60 ml Colorance Core Lotion

Formula C: 20 ml Elumen AB@9 + 20 ml Elumen GB@9 + 10 ml Elumen Dark Marigold

Formula D: 20 ml Elumen GK@all + 1 ml Elumen PK@all

2. Two Ideas For Texture
We loved these techniques captured backstage with KMS Global Style Council Members Lori Panarello and Sam Burnett. The elastic thread idea takes two people to set, but the results are awesome, and the classic rickrack technique using a tiny curling iron is a great idea, too. Check it out!

3. Crimped Root Volume
We’ve been spotting micro-crimpers backstage a lot recently, and it’s because of their versatility. Rebecca shows us how to use this tool for volume at the root that doesn’t require backcombing. Plus, the final look is an homage to Donna Summer, so give it a watch!

4. Super Edgy Cut
This is the cut you want to give your confident ladies who can rock a serious shape. Goldwell Global Artistic Director for Haircutting Jay Mahmood gives us the rundown of not only the cut, but the new Goldwell Master Stylist series, which teaches you the essential and contemporary shapes you need to know behind the chair. Get the details about more Goldwell education!
