4 Haute Men’s How-Tos From Fashion Week

close formula

We love New York Fashion Week Men’s because it gives us time to totally focus on upcoming trends for guys, and this year was no exception. Some of the hottest hair was created by Oribe educators, and we got the how-tos for four of our faves!

Wood House S/S 2017
Hair by Louis Orozco

Wood House designer Julian Woodhouse is a manager in the U.S. Army who designs his men’s collection in his spare time. The look for this season was the effortlessly confident man with an emphasis on the importance of classic styling and functionality. Louis emulated this with a masculine hairstyle featuring a strong, slightly feminine wave.

Get the Look
1. Prep the hair with Maximista Thickening Spray.

2. Apply Rock Hard Gel with a tint brush at the roots to create strength.

3. Put the fingerwave into place.

4. Slick down the back and sides with Star Glow Styling Wax.

Max N’ Chester S/S 2017
Hair by Dan Nguyen

Designer Peter Trainor went for a “vibe of feeling comfortable 24/7 with a worn-in look.” Transporting everyone to the ideal beach vacation, the collection was inspired by Cuba’s casual elegance and tropical, modern culture. Dan matched this laidback style with an easy, textured curl.

Get the Look
1. Prep the hair with Foundation Mist and Crème for Style to create structure and memory.

2. Use Curl Shaping Mousse, Curl Gloss Hydration & Hold and Curl Control Silkening Crème to enhance natural curls.

3. Pin random curls, diffuse, cool and remove pins to create texture variety.

4. Finish with Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray at the roots and Dry Texturizing Spray at the midshafts to create contrast.

Private Policy S/S 2017
Hair by Kien Hoang

This collection, inspired by the horrors of slave labor in the Southeast Asia fishing industry, was a myriad of color, texure, pattern and silhouette. The brand called for “freedom for all,” so Kien sculpted a “Rebel Warriors from the Sea” style that mimicked the sharp, pointed scales of a fish.

Get the Look
1. Begin by applying Volumista Mist for Volume and Surfcomber Tousled Texture Mousse and backcomb.

2. Tie off certain sections with electric cord, then fold and comb the rest of the hair back to enhance different growth patterns on top of the head.

3. Use a netting material to smash the texture.

4. Spray Superfine Strong Hair Spray to set the shape.

5. Flat iron, pulling the hair outward, and finish with Star Glow Styling Wax.

Cadet S/S 2017
Hair by Nathan Nguyen

Cadet reinterpreted the Roman military for the modern guy in their spring collection, replicating images of Roman Legions, such as gladiators and emperors, but giving them a confident, urban edge. Nathan complimented this hint of hair history with strong, shiny hair.

Get the Look
1. Apply Foundation Mist throughout the hair, creating damp but not overly-saturated texture.

2. Use a comb to sculpt the hair to a desired texture.

3. Diffuse the hair and allow to air-dry.
