How-To: Chelsea
The Urban Curl

Prep
1. Shampoo and condition with Extra Volume Shampoo and Extra Volume Conditioner. Towel-dry the hair.

2. Apply 2 to 3 pumps of Moroccanoil Treatment Light to damp midlengths and ends.

3. Apply Volumizing Mousse from midlengths through the ends and Root Boost at the root area.

4. Rough-dry as necessary. Blow-dry using a 35 mm ceramic round brush to create volume.

Sectioning

1. Create an ear-to-ear radial parting through the high point. Secure the back with a styling clip.

2. Create a deep side part. Use styling clips to secure a section on each side of the part.

Step-By-Step
1. Begin on the heavy side of the part. Pivot from the recession area and use a diagonal parting to create a 1-inch subsection at the front hairline. Use a 1-inch Marcel iron to create an on-base curl. Apply Luminous Hairspray Medium, subsection by subsection, as you curl the hair. Secure the curled subsection with a pin-curl clip.

2. Continue to pivot, curl and clip until reaching the parietal ridge. At the parietal ridge, transition to 1-inch horizontal subsections and continue to curl and clip until the heavy side is complete. Use 1-inch horizontal subsections and complete the light side in the same manner.

3. Repeat the technique behind the ear-to-ear radial parting, working in a bricklay pattern and using 1-inch horizontal subsections until the back is complete. Apply Dry Texture Spray globally and allow the hair to cool.

4. Remove the pin-curl clips. Use a detangling comb to rake through the curls and begin to shape the hair. Ruche the hair to create volume.

Pro Tip: If the hair is long, create a small, horizontal anchor braid at the nape and pin long lengths of hair to this anchor.

5. Use Texture Clay to shape and define the curls, then mist with Luminous Hairspray Strong to set the style.

The Ultra Braid

Prep
1. Shampoo and condition with Extra Volume Shampoo and Extra
Volume Conditioner. Towel-dry the hair.

2. Apply 2 to 3 pumps of Moroccanoil Treatment to damp midlengths and ends.

3. Apply Volumizing Mousse from midlengths through ends, then apply Hydrating Styling Cream to just the ends.

4. Rough-dry by directing the hair and air flow upward at the root area to create volume.

5. Mist the hair with Heat Styling Protection. Use a 1 ½-inch Marcel Iron to create waves throughout the head.

Sectioning
1. Create an ear-to-ear radial parting through the high point. Use a styling clip to isolate and secure the hair in the back. Use a second radial parting to divide the front in half. Use styling clips to secure the two sections in the front.

Step-By-Step
1. Begin in the front section, working from the left hairline to the right hairline, and create an inverted French braid (tight to the head) that follows the curve of the head. Secure hair ends with an elastic.

2. Create a second inverted French braid in the section running parallel to the first, and work from left to right again. Secure hair ends with an elastic. Blouse the braids to hide the parting line, then secure the braids together, from underneath, with bobby pins or hair pins.

3. Select random pieces of hair from the remaining unbraided hair and create several loose rope braids. Blouse rope braids as needed. Apply Dry Texture Spray to the loose hair to create additional volume and define movement.
