Finish Any Color Service With A Glaze For Mega Shine & Vibrance

Ever feel like you’re missing something after blow-drying fresh color? The dimension is there, the color is what your client wanted…but where’s the salon-quality vibrance and shine? Use these three glaze techniques to add that finishing touch you (and your clients) are looking for. 

1. Shimmer Melt Glaze

This glaze technique is perfect for clients who want to keep their natural color without things looking dull. It’s tricky to create visible dimension when your goal is only adding a level or two, so hair painting expert Patricia Nikole (@paintedhair) shares how her shimmer melt glaze technique is an easy fix.

The subtle tonal shift is the perfect way to allow your clients to see a difference while keeping a natural look!

“We were starting at her natural Level 7, so I lightened her up a bit because she wanted to see movement and brightness but still feel like herself,” says Patricia. To make the lightened pieces pop without too much contrast, Patricia used two Wella Professionals Shinefinity Zero Lift Glaze shades to add vibrance without extra lift to keep color true to tone.

Here’s Patricia’s Formula: 

Lightener: Wella Professionals BlondorPlex Powder Lightener + 20-vol Welloxon creme developer (6%)

Highlights: Shinefinity Zero Lift Glaze 09/14 Toffee Milk + Shinefinity Bottle Activator (2%)

LowLights: Shinefinity Zero Lift Glaze 06/02 Dark Sage + Shinefinity Bottle Activator (2%)

2. Pastel Glaze

Struggle to get even glaze coverage on Level 10 clients? Here’s a trick to avoid platinum clients’ porous ends pulling an unwanted tone! Briana Cisneros (@brianacisneros) adds Shinefinity Zero Lift Glaze 00/00 Crystal Glaze to her formulas for added control when processing high-lift clients. 

The clear shade does not alter the color or tonality of the glaze but helps amp up shine and create a barrier between dry ends and the color depositing. This will allow your clients to process evenly from root to end without worrying about porous ends pulling an unwanted undertone.

3. Balancing Glaze

After a root touch-up, use a balancing glaze to even out vibrance and shine through the rest of the hair. Red hair specialist Sonya Dove (@thesonyadove) says this will give the look of fresh all-over color when clients end up needing extra maintenance at their touch-up appointments. 

“After applying your root touch-up you can apply your balancing glaze at the bowl or in the chair,” explains Sonya. “This is a super salon-friendly technique as you don’t need to rinse the root color before applying the glaze!” 

Sonya’s Formula: 

Root touch-up: Wella Professionals Koleston Perfect 7/34 + 10-volume Welloxon Developer (3%) 

Top of the head: Shinefinity Zero Lift Glaze 08/34 Spicy Ginger + Shinefinity Brush & Bowl Activator (2%)

Through the ends: Shinefinity Zero Lift Glaze 07/34 Paprika Spice Shinefinity Brush & Bowl Activator (2%)
