Top Hairdressers Predict 2019’s Biggest Hair Trends
What colors, haircuts and styles are on our trend radar for the next year? We asked major celebrity stylists and Instagram’s top influencers their 2019 predictions and here’s what they had to say! We’ll give you a few hints: shaggy layers, keepin’ things glossy and a soft nude palette of hair painting perfection. Keep scrolling for everything you need to know about the year’s most-anticipated trends from the hairdressers who start them.

1. Monotone Haircolor
Yes, we will always love dimensional balayage…but glossier and shinier monotone hues are having their moment this year. “We’ll see deep and shiny blueish black shades similar to Dua Lipa’s signature look—a bit more low-maintenance and chic,” shares Kardashian-Jenner hair guru Andrew Fitzsimons (@andrewfitzsimons).

Celebrity stylist to Hollywood’s cool-girl squad, Justine Marjan (@justinemarjan), also approves this high-shine color trend that creates an all-over bold vibe. “Step aside, ombré,” warns Justine. “Monotone strands are SO in!”

2. ’90s Shags & Fringe
Our 2019 mantra—keep it shagadelic, baby. Warm up those razor-cutting techniques ASAP, because the midlength ’90s shag haircut is back and more layered than ever. “Feathered ends and layers add body, movement and look great on girls with wavy and straight hair,” dishes celeb trendsetter and OUAI Founder Jen Atkin (@jenatkinhair)

What’s a shag without some face-framing fringe? “Fringe is a full-time job,” warns Jen. “Expect to see eyebrow-grazing curtain bangs that frame the face and cheek bones,” adds Justine. If your clients are having fringe fever, guide them through styling and maintenance tips FIRST and how to choose the right length for their face shape.

3. Nude Balayage
Living coral may be the Pantone Color of the Year, but the soft and peachy nude palette is one of our favorite hair painting trends ATM. What’s the best way to pick a shade? “Have your client show their favorite nude lip gloss or lipstick and match the balayage to that color,” recommends BTC Team Member Amy McManus, aka @camouflageandbalayage to her 192k Instagram followers.

4. Soft & Brushed-Out Texture
Need a break from styling beachy waves back-to-back?! We’ve got you covered. Celebrity stylist Harry Josh (@harryjoshhair) predicts more brushed-out looks, softer waves and bobs will reign over the tousled and textured looks of yesteryear.

5. Glossy Blunt Bobs & Lobs
It’s official: We’re bringing blunt lines and cropped haircuts into 2019 with us. “This look is especially flattering on women with heart-shaped faces or defined jawlines,” shares Andrew. “When cut at the proper length, the blunt bob or lob will highlight all of your best features! There’s a timeless element to this style that’s very chic.”

6. Warm Brunette Tones
Who doesn’t want French girl hair? According to Lo Wheeler (@lo_wheelerdavis) warmer brown shades are on the trend radar—think golden, reddish and solid warm tones that will brighten up any brunette.

7. Half Up, Half Down Styles
Last year was all about the ponytail and now we’re seeing the transition into more half up, half down styles. “These looks give a high fashion vibe without being too over the top,” shares Andrew. “There’s also a ton of styling options, so you’ll never get bored. Half up looks involve giving some structure to the top of the head like a ponytail, bun or a strategic part to give the crown more volume than a fully down style.”
