Takeaway Tips:

• Prep with a blow-dry lotion and smooth out the hair before you braid. This will make the style look shinier and help make any dimension in the hair stand out.

• When prepping for a style, Alexandra likes to curl with the 1¼-inch barrel in her Hot Tools® Professional CURLBAR™ Set because it creates more body and less bend. But to create undone, lived-in beach waves that WON’T be tucked into the style, she swaps the CURLBAR™ barrel for the 1-inch size.

• If she has stubborn layers that won’t stay put, Alexandra recommends coating your fingers with hairspray first to help tuck the hair back into the braid. And if that doesn’t work, weave a bobby pin into the braid to control those unruly pieces.

• Remember this: The smaller your weaving sections, the more intricate your braid will look—and it applies to all braids, especially fishtails.
