Hello, I've received wonderful responses from this board in the past....here is my present problem. Although I am not a cosmetologist, cut rather a 15-yr veteran massage therapist with a small space (2 rooms). I have been in business at the same location for 13 years. I have built a name for my place and people come to my business by name and not the couple of therapists working for me. I work four days per week and two of them are booked well into the evening. I've always paid a sliding scale, but this is getting ridiuclous. Therapists want 50% and I don't even get that much after I pay the bills. I advertise constantly and sell tons of gift certificates. I pay them 40% on GC's and they just expect to walk in do their massages and leave, never worrying about marketing or anything else. I considered putting them on an hourly/commission base but don't know if I can afford it. We have expanded services to include so spa services, however, neither of them work to get new people in the door and I've caught one trying to do some of my clients at his home. With tips, these therapists are making close to $35 an hour and they rarely can keep a filled schedule from week to week. I bust my butt doing all the marketing and I'm the one booked each week and they get better pay than I do. I've considered room rental and then they'll see what it costs to keep a business functioning. Any suggestions? I have an appointment with my accountant next week and would love to run a couple of new ideas by her. Thanks to all who respond.
Kindly,
Kathleen
