They probably want the long, swept to the side fringe. (A la Jennifer Aniston's fringe last year.)
You'll want to gather all of the fringe to the side where they part their hair. Then, cut it either just below the eyebrow, or just below the eye- depending on how long of a fringe they want. When you let go, it will be an asymmetrical fringe that you can sweep over to one side. I like to texturize the fringe as well.
