Do you care about Diversion?
Posted: Thursday, December 13, 2012 3:27:38 PM
When do we, as salon professionals, stand up against Diversion of any kind?
When do we say enough is enough?
Don't you think it's about time to support the brands and companies that DON'T divert?
I hear stylists everyday complain that their favorite product is in the drugstore. Or, their client is purchasing it elsewhere like Target or Walmart.

Don't let companies lie to you saying they are doing everything they can. Fact is: they make too much money selling to your favorite drugstore. After spending 27 years in this industry I assure you.. the bottom line is money. They want the money and places like Walgreens and CVS pays. Simple.
Now, what are YOU going to do about it???
Continue to use and support the companies that are stealing from you? Or, support the companies that CARE about you?
Thoughts?

This is out of context but from another thread a year or so ago.  Do a search and you will have some debate material.  The only way that diversion will ever be controlled is for the Salons to unite politically. Laws...  SEE BELOW

Several companies have spent big $$ trying to get laws changed, but to no avail. I don't know, but have any of the organizations in our industry spent money trying to do what you ask? Go to this website to see the real numbers.

They will spend you to death with their profits to prevent laws being changed to slow sales. SALES ARE SALES TO THESE COMPANIES, regardless of their yapping.

I do believe there is some culpability (NOT THE LIONS SHARE) on the salons part. Salons had a great exclusivity opportunity and did not carry their end of the log!

Retail has been taken seriously by a fairly small % of salons (over the 35 year span of retail in Salons) and the demand has not been filled. When you don't fill a demand, someone else will find a way.

Salons still do business with companies that privately enjoy the revenue from diversion.

Diversion is the "diverting of revenue stream intended for a specific classification of customer". This is not exclusive to a bottle of shampoo. It is services too, you just don't look at it the same.

Your SERVICES are being diverted by advertising from the largest company you do business with as an industry. Isn't advertising drug store, DIY color, trying to get consumers to NOT GO TO THE SALON?

Someone will respond that they get to charge alot for doing corrective color needed from using drug store color!!! BS, you'd better have a washboard in you salon if you believe that. That way you can take in laundry, and watch yourself starve to death in your nice mirrors.

How big is the demand? Retail stores able to sell the same as you for a higher price? I think that speaks volumes.

YOU CANNOT PUT THE GENIE BACK IN THE BOTTLE!! YOU MUST MAKE A CLEAN BREAK AND DO BUSINESS WITH COMPANIES THAT ARE NOT IN MASS MARKET RETAIL STORES.

PART OF THE PROBLEM OR PART OF THE SOLUTION.................
