Advanced education
Posted: Saturday, January 07, 2012 4:40:33 PM
I need advice on getting advanced education.  I have been away from the beauty industry for 15 years and need a refresher course or class in the  Oregon/Washington area.  Any thoughts?

Contact CosmoProf. I know they have locations in Oregon. They do offer classes, and some are hands-on. Also note that each location offers different classes, so check with each of them.
You can also check with your local beauty schools. Ask if they have refresher courses for graduates. I have heard of some offering a 1-3 month 'mini' course.

A waste of time

The post below is from a different topic on this board but I think it firmly answers the question '' should I enter this field'...
This poor person who undoubtedly went to a beauty school and paid good money to do so, wasted a year doing it only to find 11 years later that she's making only $300 a week!
Hairstyling is a dead-end poorly paid waste of most people's time and energy.
Will some people make good money in hair?
Yes, but will the vast majority?
Absolutely not.

I am currently booth renting for 100 a week make about 300.00 a week after rent sales tax and exp takin out the current owner is buying a new shop and wants me to come with her but the catch is i would be going to commision with 40% for me and 60% to them.. I feel like I will be taking a pay cut... HELP I don't know what I should do. She is willing to negotiate she said but not sure how much.. I have been doing hair for 11 years and feel I have worked way to hard to get where I am at to get my clients to give someone 60% of my income.. Do you think I would be better off just finding somewhere else to rent or is commison at 40% not that bad of a thing..Any input would really help me out right now!!!
