Booking with an assistant
Posted: Wednesday, November 04, 2009 7:45:57 PM

I am looking to get some feedback from stylists that work with assistants.

I have been working with an assistant now for the past 3 yrs. and I would like to know how other people manage their books. What services do your assistants perform for you?  Do they blowdry and all of your clients?  Do they apply all of your touch ups even if that is the only service they are coming in for?

How do you book yourself so that things run smoothly.

Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

We give our assistant her own coloumn in the book, where all the stylists write when she'll be needed to rinse, do scalp massages, neutralize perms, etc. That way she knows where she needs to be, and we don't have 3 stylists needing her at once.
She doesn't apply colour unless absolutely necessary, and will only blow-dry on occasion. We'll work her up to that as the need arises.
On slow days, she can bring in her friends/family to style, apply colour, etc, so that she's getting her skills where we need them to be. If there's no one available, she's on a mani head or working on the staff.
Giving her a coloumn in the book has worked best for us so far. Also easier for her to know when she can grab a bite to eat! :)
