Questions About Booth Rental
Posted: Wednesday, October 28, 2009 11:31:36 PM

I am Booth Renting at a salon on the outskirts of a Big City. I have a few questions! If anyone could help out it would be great.  First of all , Can someone tell me what are the responsiblities of a Booth Renter. I believe I should keep my area and the backbar clean since these are the areas I use. But the place I work for expects me to clean all areas of the salon even areas I dont even work in, they expect me to put up product that comes in as well as clean the bathrooms and clean retail shelves, mop and sweep. I dont mind doing my part but I rent so I dont know what my fair part is? Can anyone help? Also I have been told that when the leases are finished up by the company I work for there will be a clause in it that if I dont do all of the things I described above I will have to pay a fee to the cleaning company that comes in once a month.  Can they do that? Does anyone know if I have to sign the lease if I dont agree with it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Blessings.

Im not a booth renter yet but from what you said it sounds like your paying them to work for them. I would start looking for another place to rent before they make you sign that clause. your boothrent you pay should include some type of cleaning service.. who knows what they woud have you do next probably some land scaping out side  :-P

As an outsider it makes sense to me. It's a way for booth renters to have cheaper rent. If I owned that salon and the booth renters didn't want to do the sidework, no problem. I'd just bump up the rent and hire somebody to do the chores.

i totally agree with ideamaned. i own a salon and i have renters. someone has to clean the salon, and i will be damned as the owner if i am going to do everything myself.  If i have to hire someone to clean, then my renters cost will go up, if not, everyone should expect to pitch in.  Yes, they are working "for themselves", but the cleanliness and appearance of the entire salon is going to affect their business also.  Clients will not flock to your chair if it is in the middle of a trahy looking shop, whether you tell them "it's not my job" or not.  If stylists dont like this, then they should work in a shop alone, so they can only have themselves to clean up after. I really can't stand the attitude of "it' not my job!" Total union mentality, only wait a minute......hairstylists dont have a union.  Also...for those stylists who are newer, and perhaps work in chain salons, you will find cleaning to be part of your daily expectations, and if you further your career to booth rental, that sort of DIVA attitude willo make you no friends in the salon.

OK...thats it...rant over......I guess certain subjects just get under the skin a little huh?? LOL
