? On Becoming an Educator
Posted: Monday, October 12, 2009 8:34:22 PM

Hello!

I'm hoping someone out there can lend me some advice.  I have recently, briefly spoke with an International Company about becoming an educator, and before I go any further I wanted to see if any of you could give me some info so I am better "educated" when I speak to them again.

They are looking for someone in my region of the country to be an educator, starting out going to shows demonstrating, not at the platform level yet.

My main question is so I don't look stupid is, what does something like this pay for a day? weekend, etc.. and do they cover travel expenses?

Is there anything else I should know to mention when I have my meeting??

Thank you in advance!

the rates vary, depending on whether you will be alone, or part of a team when you go to do classes. the company should pay for your travel, lodging if necessary, and a daily rate, which should be discussed in advance of you agreeing to do this. i have been paid a range of amounts, from 150 a day to 450 a day, plus expenses. it really depends on the content and context of the job you are doing.

you should ask how often you will be booked for shows, if the content is up to you or scripted by them, how much is product driven versus technique? will you be teaching technique or product knowledge?

basically, you want to know what's expected of you, but you should definitely make sure it will be what you expect as well.
