A New Twist
Braided accents started appearing on runways earlier this year—now the trend is accelerating. Recently, Blake Lively opted for a chunky, waist-length plait at the Emmys. At the MTV Video Music Awards, Alicia Keys sported a punk-inspired braid. According to Alicia’s stylist Tippi Shorter, she created the look by applying a leave-in conditioner, blow drying the hair thoroughly and flat ironing for a sleek finish. Next she slicked back the sides and incorporated all of the hair into a French braid. Firm-hold hairspray kept the look in place during Keys’ rockin’ performance.
