Starting Out
If you’re just starting out in the business, the road
ahead can be daunting. In the new book, 50
Hairstylists, which profiles top artists,
celebrity stylist Dean Banowetz (American
Idol) offers great advice to new stylists: “When
I’m looking for an assistant,” says Dean, “I’m
looking for someone who anticipates what’s needed, knows
when to talk and knows when to listen. If you don’t
know how to do something, speak up. Remember that it takes
a lot of hard work to build a clientele—you don’t
just walk into ready-made customers. And as my beauty college
owner said, ‘People want to know you care before they
care what you know!’” |
