On the Level
In order to achieve an ideal color result, don’t overlook the
importance of accurately ascertaining the natural level of the hair.
The further you stray from the original level, the more apt you will
be to pull unwanted tones. So if you wrongly assume hair is lighter
than it really is, for example, you might mix a formula that won't
be strong enough to give you the amount of lift you need. And that’s
what leads to unwanted brassiness. To zero in on the right color,
try holding swatches to the head, in the same direction as the growth
of the hair, until you have a perfect match.
