GraffiX by Vidal Sassoon

The unconscious meets the artist in Vidal Sassoon’s GraffiX.

The collection mixes the shadow-play of the surrealist fashion photographer Man Ray in the 1930s with the post-punk warrior queens of the early 1980s. Think Siouxsie Sioux and Poison Ivy of the Cramps clad in the black leather glamazon fantasies of a key designer of that decade, Thierry Mugler.

The graphic hair design is silhouetted in the glow of the magnesium spotlight, a mix of extremes of length and loose finish. Tight panels of hair in alternated sections of short and long are interlocked through the top to create a diffused, softer look.  Colour is applied after the cut with no technical sectioning beforehand combining natural colour with shades of silver, blue and red. An unsettling surrealist effect is evoked through the shape-shifting of hand and glove, a theatre of the body which is both elegant and yet strangely sinister.
