Redken Symposium 2007

REDKEN SYMPOSIUM 2007
INSPIRATION, INFORMATION, ENERGY…AND FERGIE!

Yup, that was Fergie herself, the princess from the Peas, rocking the crowd at the recent Redken Symposium in Las Vegas.  The Duchess performed a private concert for guests, including BTC’s Mary Rector, after meeting with VIPs for photo opps. But despite Fergie’s high glamour quotient, the real headliner of Redken’s perpetually popular event was the education.

The 2007 Symposium—Mind Over Attitude–featured a packed curriculum of classes, led by popular Redken artists like Chris Baran, Kris Sorbie, Suzanne Sturm and Sam Villa, plus a number of intriguing new faces.  After two days of rotating classes, the more than 9,200 professional stylists (including 1,000 international attendees) got their fill of professional knowledge and training.  According to Christine Schuster, senior vice president, Redken education, the first class to sell out was Deb Rosenberg and Dhaniel Doud’s “Color 911,” a troubleshooting course that covered strategies for home hair color disasters, over-processing, banding, uneven color, fast fading, dark ends and more.  Also packed to capacity was “Turning Up Your Inner Power to Prosper,” a professional’s guide to the “path to abundance,” led by Michael Cole and Peter Mahoney; “The Hairy Reality of Fashion,” an up-close look at catwalk coiffures with session stylists Giovanni Giuntoli and Patrick McIvor; and “Mastery in Motion,” a heady mix of styling, cutting, coloring and theatre courtesy of Baran, Sorbie, Sturm and Villa.

As always, the opening night spectacular did not disappoint.  The entire roster of educators shared the stage with Vegas’ best dancers at the Mandalay Bay Auditorium, to launch Mind Over Attitude to the crowd with music, comedy and, of course, great hair.  On a sad note, the well-respected Dr. David Cannell took the stage and announced his retirement.  Throughout the three-day event, stylists were invited to visit the Pavilion, where they could shop in the Redken Gallerie for great deals on all of their favorites; take part in the “Exchange Experience” and log on in The Buzz Lounge.

Notes Schuster, “This year’s Symposium was unforgettable! The event inspired, informed and taught all of our loyal customers and attendees. Our Grand Opening was an energetic way to showcase our dedicated Redken artists. The classes offered were diverse and had strong content. The Redken Pavilion showcased everything the company has to offer. And the Redken bash featuring Fergie and DJ Samantha Ronson was on point! Of course none of this could have been accomplished without the dedication, organization, and planning of everyone who worked behind the scenes to make it the best Symposium we have ever had.”

Adds Redken Vice President of Global Communications Ann Mincey, “To be in the Mandalay Bay Arena surrounded by 10,361 salon professionals, distributors, guests from 36 countries, staff numbering over 400, and every single person with one vision in mind…’to learn better, earn better and live better,’ was a highlight of my 32 year career with Redken. In reviewing the evaluations from the attendees, the 2007 International Symposium lived up to the trust bestowed upon us by the Stylist Choice Awards’  ‘Favorite Manufacturer Educational Event.’ We promise to continue our dedication to being the leading resource for training in the professional industry.”
