With the Granny Gray game still going strong, it’s time to get creative! To keep the trend fresh, you’ve got to push your own coloring boundaries farther than ever before. We’re talking multidimensional blends, seamless techniques and an eye for true hair art. When her client came to her with two inches of solid regrowth asking for a change, Eva Lam knew just what to do. She mixed up this gorgeous gray on the fly, creating a dark steel base that melts seamlessly into a soft, misty silver. Here’s how she did it!

 

 

Natural Level 2, with grown-out roots
Midlengths and ends: Level 8

Color Formulas

Formula A (prelighten):  Wella Professionals BLONDOR Lightener + 40-volume developer

Formula B (gray): Goldwell Colorance 8sb + 4 inches of 2N + Goldwell developer lotion

Formula C (silver): Goldwell Colorance 8sb + Goldwell developer lotion

Application

1. Apply Formula A, using the Balayage technique, to highlight and give dimension.

2. Next, take Formula B, applying to the roots about 4-5 inches out.

3. Apply Formula C on the midlengths to the ends.

4. Process for 15 minutes and rinse with cold water.
