P&G's Olympic-Inspired Hair How-To:
The Gymnast

When thinking about a monumentally inspirational event and the Olympics certainly tops the charts. And stylists from P&G got to experience that inspiration first hand. In a massive undertaking, almost as big as the games themselves, the company brought an international team of colorists and stylists to the London 2012 Olympics to provide makeovers on the athletes and their families—from hair services and skin treatments to grooming, color and even Olympic-themed manicures. The makeover team even created a few looks inspired by the sights, sounds, sports and spirit that only the Olympics can offer. Here’s their “Gymnastics”-inspired updo!

The Look: Gymnastics

What it is: Mirroring the characteristics of one of the Olympic Games’ most popular sports, gymnastics, this sleek, controlled and beautifully elegant style is the perfect combination of fluidity and discipline.

Step 1: Wash the hair with Wella Professionals Enrich Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner. Apply Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier to wet hair, to improve manageability and styling control.

Step 2: Apply Wella Professionals Perfect Setting Blow Dry Lotion to lift the roots and give extra volume and blow dry the hair naturally.

Step 3: Separate the fringe area into an asymmetric triangle. Comb the rest of the hair into a tight ponytail at the nape of the neck.

Step 4: Spray the ponytail with Wella Professionals Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray and use curling tongs to create a natural looking wave in the hair.

Step 5: Separate the ponytail into three even sections and braid into a loose plait. Secure the end with hair elastic.

Step 6: Loosen the braid further using your hands and twist the braid into a knot at the nape of the neck and secure it in place with hairpins.

Step 7: Style the fringe area into a wave and blend the end of the fringe into the knot, fixing it in place with hairpins. Set the whole style using Wella Professionals Super Set Finishing Spray.
