Alicia Keys Debuts a Short New ‘Do
Alicia Keys took it all off! Her hair, that is. The singer/songwriter recently debuted a modern undercut and we got the scoop from her stylist Tippi Shorter.
“Alicia has talked about cutting her hair for the last five years, and this seemed like the perfect time given the upcoming release of her new project,” Tippi says. “She wanted something that she could still wear curly but also that could translate to edgy and sexy. We decided on a short, slightly asymmetrical choppy bob. She loves it and I'm excited for all of the styling possibilities.”
For her cut, Tippi removed about six inches of hair as a base length then created texture using a razor. “I prefer to cut curly hair with a razor,” she says. “With shears, the finished style tends to either be too angled or too round. The razor gives me great shape with a fresh feel.” After shampooing and conditioning with the smoothing collection from HAIR by Tippi Shorter, Tippi used the Brazilian Heat After Dark Blow Dryer and a paddle brush to dry the hair. She finished by straightening Alicia's hair with the 1-inch Brazilian Heat After Dark Flat Iron.
For the color, Tippi focused on refreshing the tone and adding a subtle halo of highlights. “It had been a while since we last did color and it had oxidized so much,” she shares. “I used Goldwell 6A and 30-volume for base and did a pre-light on a halo of highlights, then toned with 7NA and 10-volume.”
