Go Pink or Go Home: 16 Products to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

By: Cailley Hammel

It’s true: we in the beauty industry support one another however we can—and that includes manufacturers. That support couldn’t be more evident than during Breast Cancer Awareness month, when companies and manufacturers release special editions of their most popular products, making it possible for you to support those affected by breast cancer while on the job. Take a look at just a few of the products these companies have to offer, and see how you can help.

Wear Your Support on Your Sleeve
We at BTC love to support each other and help out whenever we can. We also love a good T-shirt. That’s why we created the “Peace, Love, Cure” T-Shirt. In a stylish pink hue, you can show of your support while knowing that a portion of every sale benefits Look Good, Feel Better, an organization dedicated to improving the self-esteem and quality of life of those undergoing treatment for cancer—and do so from the inside, out with the help of thousands of volunteer beauty professionals.

Help and Relief
Aveda
has always been dedicated to supporting those coping with breast cancer—since 2004, Aveda has contributed more than $1.5 million to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Just one effort to help is the release of the limited edition Pink Ribbon Hand Relief, a rich moisture therapy that leaves hands noticeably softer and smoother. Containing hydrating plant emollients, humectants, exfoliating fruit acids and anti-oxidants (including vitamins A and E) help diminish signs of aging and provide relief for dry, chapped hands.

GO for the Cure
Hairstyling irons aren’t always that cute—but how about a hot pink iron with a black crackle finish that supports breast cancer awareness? That’s exactly what you’ll get with FHI Heat’s GO Crush Hairstyling iron. The iron features advanced adjustable heat from 140 to 410 degrees F, quick heat recovery, ceramic-covered plates with tourmaline crystals, beveled plates so you can create a variety of styles and an extra long cord. When purchased at a Regis salon, FHI Heat will donate $1 per iron to the Regis Foundation for Breast Cancer. When purchased at any other salon or beauty store, $1 of each purchase benefits Bright Pink, an organization that helps women at higher risk of developing breast cancer and/or ovarian cancer, as well as those in treatment and survivors. To the Rescue!
Alterna
is coming to the rescue with a special edition of its Caviar Overnight Hair Rescue—the 1 oz. bottle, perfect for traveling, replenishes damaged and color-treated hair overnight. According to Alterna, 95% of women showed statistically significant improvement in damage and shine after use! And to support breast cancer, 5% of net proceeds from each bottle sold will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. To learn more visit:

“Hot” Pink
Bio Ionic
will be releasing the new “Pink’ PowerLight & FreeStyle tools to spread awareness and raise funds for breast cancer. First is the PowerLight pro-dryer, which boasts 1875 watts of nanolonic conditioning airflow that reduces drying time and helps eliminate frizz. It comes with a large round brush, two nozzles and a diffuser in the box, so you’ll have everything you need to create polished looks on your clients.
First you blowdry, then you style with the FreeStyle styling and straightening iron. Make waves, curls, or simply straighten with the iComb iron comb enclosed in the box.
The tools come with a energy balancing bracelet to put you at ease, and the tools themselves are decked out in a breast cancer awareness pattern. A portion of the sales of each tool benefit the
Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Big Hair, Big Hearts
Bosley Professional Strength
was created for people with fine and thinning hair—the latter of which is something chemotherapy patients identify with. With this in mind, Bosley is releasing a limited-edition version of their Volumizing & Thickening Nourishing Leave-In. The alcohol-free thermal protector provides noticeable thickness and volume. Containing hydrolyzed vegetable protein to help detangle and smooth, your client’s hair will be left fuller-feeling and shiny. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Beauty Bus Foundation, which will earmark the funds for services for individuals affected by breast cancer. For more information, visit

Shear Pink
You use shears everyday—why not make them pink? For a limited time, Fromm International is offering a 5.25” shear with a beautiful pink “camo” print. (The camo is actually butterflies, how cute is that?) While adorable, these shears mean business: they’re made from Japanese steel with convex, hollow-ground blades, a crane handle and detachable finger rests. With every purchase, stylists receive a free pink camo texture razor with a lightweight, non-slip handle, articulated joint and blade guard; a 4-piece, zippered shear case; and a Pink Camo hairstyling cape with adjustable snap closure.
In addition, Fromm is offering their Tart 5.25” shear as a package with matching texture shear, case and thermal brush with porcupine bristles.
Each package is $79.99, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. To learn more, visit:

Va-Va-Boom!
Boom Boom
is one sassy company that believes in supporting “the twins” however it can. To do so, they have a product for another set of twins: the eyebrows! For those of who specialize in brow care, look no further: Boom Boom Push-Up Brow highlighting pencil is a two sided pencil: a matte side for day and a sparkly side for whenever your clients feel the need to dazzle. During October, 10% of the sale of each Boom Boom pencil will be donated to the
American Cancer Society.

Pretty in Pink
For the fourth year in a row, InfraShine is proud to hold its “Signature Pink” promotion. During September and October, the styling tool company will offer its most popular product, the InfraShine ClassicLine MST styling iron, with pink plates and trim accents to honor those affected by breast cancer. Part of the proceeds of each sale will go to various breast cancer research organizations. To receive these contributions, the organizations must pledge to use at least 80% of the donation directly for breast cancer research. To read more, visit

Think Pink
It’s Paul Mitchell’s goal to celebrate women everywhere who dazzle with their strength and tenacity while battling cancer. To do so, the company is proud to present three products that will support the American Cancer Society’s effort to fight cancer. They have the Express Ion Dry Hotlight, an eye-catching hot pink blowdryer with gold accents that cuts dry time by 60%, which keeps hair hydrated and healthy. The Express Ion Curl XL is an extra-large, 1 ½ inch aluminum barrel curling iron that heats up to 400 degrees and promises to give your client lush, frizz-free curls. Finally, Hot off the Press is a thermal hair protectant featuring a multi-purpose, humidity resistant formula that shields hair from damage while providing flexible hold for styling. Plumping up Support
The founder of E! Entertainment Television, Alan Mruvka, has broadened his horizons to include the makeup industry with The LOOK PRO Professional Makeup. The all-natural limp plumper is an oil-based, paraben-free product that works with the help of niacin (or Vitamin B) to plump lips, restore moisture and gloss all at once. And with the product’s release taking place just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, THE LOOK PRO is releasing two shades of pink to benefit the cause. With each purchase of the plumper on THE LOOK STORE during October, $1 from every sale will be donated to the Foundation for Living Beauty, an organization that provides services to assist both cancer survivors and those currently battling it.

Big Hair, Big Support
Support your hair and support breast cancer awareness with two of Kenra’s popular products, which for a limited time will come decked out in pink for the cause. First is Kenra’s Volume Spray 25, which will leave your clients with volume, control and humidity resistance. Second, there is Kenra’s Platinum Blow-Dry, an advance-dry, thermal protectant (up to an impressive 428 degrees) that reduces blow-dry time by up to 50%.
In addition to offering products from its line, Kenra is also partnering with The Rapunzel Project, an organization that helps cancer patients keep their hair through chemotherapy with the use of cold cap technology. Kenra’s goal is to raise $300,000 for the organization; so far, the company has raised $70,000. But it still doesn’t end there: Kenra is also donating $30,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure!

 Colortrack Goes Pink
After donating $12,000 to the City of Hope last year, Colortrak, a division of Betty Dain Creations, Inc, will again support Breast Cancer Awareness month—and hopes to surpass 2010’s donation—with the release of two products: the Pink Zebra Crock Clips and the Pink Standard Timer. The 4-pack of clips, in a fun zebra-stripe pink, are made with a unique spring mechanism that adjusts to any amount of hair as you cut, color or style. And the standard timer, decked out in candy pink, is a 60-minute windup timer that will keep you on track as a client’s color processes. For more information, visit www.colortrack.com.

Shattering Cancer’s Odds
For the fifth year in a row, OPI is releasing a limited edition nail lacquer in honor of breast cancer awareness month. However, this year is extra special. The 2011 Pink of Hearts edition marks the debut of the fan-favorite shatter coat in OPI’s first pink shade, allowing your clients to have fashion-forward nails while supporting a more than good cause.
Each bottle is adorned with a special pink ribbon tag and pink cap wrap to commemorate breast cancer awareness. In addition to releasing the Pink of Hearts lacquer, OPI will make its annual donation of $25,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Tickle them Pink
Feathers are still outrageously popular, and there’s a way to capitalize on them while also supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Hair Flairs, a leading hair tinsel and hair feather extensions distributor, is introducing the pink edition of their feathers just in time for October. Have your stylists wear them or simply offer them to your clients as an add-on service to show their support—just purchase the feathers and create whatever kind of fundraising program you wish, so long as the proceeds of your sales go to a charity or organization that supports breast cancer awareness. It couldn’t be easier, or more stylish!
