Dear Suzy Tryall,

I heard you speak at a Paul Mitchell hair camp in Ohio. Listening to you gave me one of those rare “ah-ha” moments, it was l was in church! Yep, you’re THAT GOOD! Thank you, Suzy, for what you have done for my career after 22 years in this industry!

Dear behindthechair.com,

When I get your magazine in the mail, it’s better than the “prize patrol” showing up at my door! What a wealth of information— I love to kick back and relax with it after a long day at the salon! I can read stories about other stylists, relate to them and learn new techniques and product knowledge. I can see the latest trends, trade show info and read about salons from all over making a difference. What a great way to unwind! Your magazine has been a huge inspiration to me. The cover is always exciting, bold and savvy and one look at it piques curiosity of what’s inside!

Dear Robert Cromeans,

I’ve viewed your videos over the course of several years. Not only did they inspire me to be the best I can be, they motivated me to try new things: new techniques, products and tools that make the job easier. I think you have a style unlike any other stylist. Your personality opens the door to a fun and upbeat learning environment, yet you always keep it professional. In your videos and onstage, you don’t come across as snobbish—you say what you have to say, teach it like it is and let us know that we can do it too.

Dear Beth Minardi,

You were the first “educator” I saw on a large stage in the early ’90s in southern California, and each time I have the privilege of spending time with you, I find your knowledge invaluable. I can’t thank you enough for your generosity and willingness to share and educate the country’s stylists.

The Paper Trail

Midway through her haircut, one of my clients said she needed to go to the toilet. To do so, she had to go into the shopping center, as we had no toilets in the salon. When she came back, she had a long piece of toilet paper hanging out of her pants. A stylist had to tell her, and she was mortified—she had walked through the whole shopping center like that!

Dear behindthechair.com:

Because of you, I’m so much more aware of what’s going on around me in my salon. I’m now know what I can do to get more involved in my community and how to keep the people I work with moving up rather than staying at the same level. With all you do, you still remain true to yourselves and that is an example all of us should try to follow. Again, thank you so much. I wish your staff nothing but happiness, health and love. If you are ever in the Chicago area, I would love to give you that nasty, three-letter word…..a HUG! Thanks again.
